What is UL 907 ?

UL 907 is a widely recognized standard that aims to ensure the safety and performance of electrical equipment used in hazardous environments. It provides guidelines for the construction, performance, and testing of electrical equipment intended for installation in potentially explosive environments. Compliance with UL 907 is mandatory for electrical equipment used in hazardous locations, such as chemical plants, refineries, mining sites, and oil rigs.

UL 907 applies to a wide range of electrical equipment, including battery control assemblies, fuses, and circuit breakers. The standard defines specific performance requirements that battery control assemblies must meet, such as electrical characteristics, construction, markings, and environmental considerations.

The scope of UL 907 is not limited to just the electrical characteristics of the control assembly, but also includes the components that make up the assembly, such as the battery, the case, the terminals, and the grounding. The standard also requires that the control assembly be designed to prevent the assembly from coming into contact with the potentially explosive environment, such as flammable liquids, dust, or vapors.

UL 907 provides a comprehensive approach to ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical equipment used in hazardous environments. It is widely recognized as the benchmark for the design and construction of electrical equipment for hazardous locations, and is critical for reducing the risk of explosions, fires, and other catastrophic incidents that could occur in these environments.
